The concept of “old world” and “new world” was a pretty uncontroversial one in wine for years. The old world made wines that tasted of things like mushrooms and leather… the new world made wines that tasted of things like peaches and blackberries… even from the same grapes!

That often led to the conclusion that new world wines were less complex, less sophisticated, or that old world wines could be austere and, sometimes, frankly unpleasant!

But lines have blurred and in 1976, in a blind tasting known as the Judgement of Paris, the New World put a massive stake in the ground as making wines as complex, elegant and sophisticated as the best of the Old World.

This… is going to be your chance to become the judge! We have picked three grapes and six wines; you have to guess which is old world and which is new world… and to decide the winner! It will be interactive and incredible fun, so don’t miss out on this chance to challenge yourself, learn something and have a great time doing so!
