The Waldschütz winery dates to 1784 and is situated in Elsarn, in the north of the Kamptal region with vineyards in both Kamptal and nearby Wagram. Owned and run by Reinhard Waldschütz since 1994, recently his son Markus has started to take over the wine making.
Their attractive fresh, sappy, spicy medium bodied Blauer Zweigelt come from high lying vines in the Schafberg region of Wagram. The 35 year old vines planted on deep Loess soil give good depth and minerality to this very attractive red. Zweigelt or Blauer Zweigelt is Austria’s widest planted red grape. It was created by crossing St. Laurent and Blaufränkisch varietals by Friedrich Zweigelt in 1922.
