We take a kangaroo sleigh trek across the outback to get to McLaren Vale, where we arrive at Mitolo, a winery owned by a family who immigrated to Australia from Abruzzo in Italy in the 1950s, but only made their first vintage in the year 2000, so are a relatively young winery.
While they started off with the classic McLaren Vale varieties such as Shiraz and Cabernet, they quickly started planting grapes that reminded them of their roots in Italy, including Sangiovese and Montepulciano.
Their "Jester" Shiraz makes an excellent addition to our collection, showing a real freshness as well as the classic ripe fruit character.
But... what's that in the distance? A fierce-looking animal?
